Ken was born in Vancouver BC and attended Kitsilano High School graduating in 1958. He worked in the grocery industry in British Columbia and in California until the mid 1960’s. He then attended UBC graduated from UBC with BA in English and Asian Studies and then an MA in Adult Education. He completed his course work on his Doctoral programme and took a leave from university to work as an intern teacher at BC Penitentiary and then as a sessional lecturer with the University of Victoria and as manager of the Donner Education Project. He then joined the Canadian Penitentiary Service as a teacher and administrator in what was later to become the Correctional Service of Canada. He taught at BC Penitentiary from 1972 to 1975 and then became an Assistant Warden, Deputy Warden, long term Acting Warden and Warden at various federal correctional institutions from 1975 until 2000. He was also Regional Operations manager for Community and Institutional operations in the Pacific Region from 1993 to 1996
Since retiring in 2000 Ken has presented personal growth workshops and has been involved in community volunteerism. He was a Director of the Clayburn Village Community Society from 2006 to 2016. He has continued his involvement with federal corrections as a member of the Senate of Kwikwexwelhp Healing Village in Chehalis BC. since 2008. He was also a Director with the Abbotsford Multicultural Society from 2010 to 2016.
Ken Peterson is an experienced Level II Personality Dimensions Facilitator and has presented True Colours and Personality Dimensions workshops for business, industry, government, and non-profit agencies since 1998. During this time he has presented in excess of 300 Colours workshops for business, industry, and government in BC, Alberta, Oregon, Texas, Tennessee, and Georgia. Ken has also been a facilitator in five day personal growth shops in the same venues for Choices Seminars Unlimited, Adventures of a Lifetime, and Foundations for the Future.
